Designed specifically for our trustees, this webinar will provide a general overview of the Commission on Ethics, including its origins, membership, jurisdiction and responsibilities. The speaker will thoroughly discuss the laws in the Code of Ethics pertaining to the acceptance of gifts. Emphasis will be placed on situations where a pension board trustee must decline a gift, as well as when a trustee must report a gift's value. Situations where a pension board trustee will have a voting conflict under the Code of Ethics will also be covered.

The speaker will discuss how public officers and public employees may request opinions from the Commission regarding provisions in the State Code of Ethics, and how the Commission handles complaints alleging violations of the Code. The session will conclude with general comments about the financial disclosure form (CE Form 1) that trustees must file annually.
