School Safety: Implementing 7026 (Online Learning)

  • Dates: 24 – 24 May, 2018
  • Time: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
On February 14, 2018, a mass shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Seventeen people were killed and seventeen more were wounded, making it one of the world’s deadliest massacres and surpassing the Columbine High School massacre.

In the days that followed, the Florida Legislature debated and passed CS/SB 7026 in response. The bill, while well-intended, was rushed through the process in less than three weeks and has been difficult to implement at the local level. There are varying interpretations of what the bill DOES or DOES NOT require of cities and counties as it relates to providing school resource or safe-school officers, how the appropriated funds can be used, and what they do or do not cover.

Tune in to this informative webinar to hear from FLC Lobbyists, Amber Hughes and Casey Cook, and FAC Lobbyists, Davin Suggs and Robert Brown, as they discuss school safety and things to consider when implementing CS/SB 7026.
