CITIZENS' ACADEMY RESOURCES

Florida League of Cities

Citizens’ academies are an excellent way to educate residents, build positive relationships and increase communication between city government officials and citizens, as well as inspire future municipal leaders.

Statistics indicate that approximately 30 percent of Floridians are native to the state, while around 70 percent have relocated from elsewhere. This demographic dynamic can significantly influence residents' understanding and engagement with city government in Florida.

To address this, the League developed the Guide to Creating a Citizens' Academy, featuring real-world examples from various Florida cities' Citizens' Academy programs.

To the right, you can see a promotional video created by the City of Sanford, showcasing the experience and benefits of participating in a Citizens' Academy.
